I have been in the IT industry for over a decade now and to this day, it still amazes me how end users are careless when it comes to ensuring that they have a working, up to date, antivirus solution on their systems!
Most stick to the Norton Antivirus program that usually comes pre-installed with new computers and is free for 6 months and then starts charging you! Honestly, I am not a huge fan of Norton products.
If you are running Microsoft Windows (XP, Vista or Windows 7) on your system, there is no reason for you to pay for antivirus software! That’s because Microsoft has an excellent product, Security Essentials, available for free for all licensed users of Windows! Note, I highlighted licensed because if you are using a pirated copy, besides that being illegal, Security Essentials will not install on those computers!
So, before you shell out any amount of money for an off the shelf antivirus solution, give Microsoft Security Essentials a try! That’s what I use at home and it has yet to disappoint me!
