Amy Winehouse (1983 – 2011)

This morning, as I was checking the news, I learned of her passing at the young age of 27. It made me sad.

In terms of her music, I was not an Amy Winehouse fan. But, I am almost certain that at some point in time, I may have listened to her on the radio and thought to myself, “hey, that’s not too bad”. I am not here to talk about her music anyway. You see, I don’t have to be a die-hard Amy Winehouse fan to respond that way. In the last few years, she was always in the news for all the wrong reasons. She heavily abused her mind and body with drugs and alcohol and in the end, it stole her life as well. Her life was tragically and unnecessarily cut short.

Many of her celebrity friends and fans are leaving solemn “R.I.P” messages. It seems appropriate considering what has happened. We can only hope that her final rest will be in peace.

Rest in peace. How can you know that one day, you will “rest in peace”? Where and with who is this peace that you want everyone, including yourself, to rest in?

Whether you like it or want to admit it, this peace is with God. It is ONLY in His presence that you can “rest in peace”.

I don’t know if Amy Winehouse ever found or knew God. I don’t know if she knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior. We will never know.

But you and I are still here. I believe in God. I know Jesus and have placed my trust and faith in Him. I know that my salvation and my peace is assured in Him.

What about you? Do you believe in God? Have you believed in Jesus? If you long to “rest in peace” when death comes knocking on your door, don’t wait another minute. Make the decision now, when you are still living.

I end with this following Scripture verses that clearly shows that God does not want anyone to die without knowing Him.

Ezekiel 18:23
Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?

Ezekiel 33:11
Say to them, ‘As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live. Turn! Turn from your evil ways! Why will you die, O house of Israel?’

2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

While you and I are still alive, God gives us the opportunity to get right with Him through Jesus!

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16

If you and I believe in Jesus, then God promises us that we will not perish but spend eternity with Him in Heaven!

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6

Jesus clearly stated that He is the ONLY way to Heaven!

To be in Heaven with God/Jesus, is to indeed “REST IN PEACE”!

God bless you all.
